Circumstances have dictated that the 72 Comet be finished ASAP. I pulled it out of the deepest darkest recesses of the shop this morning after not touching it for almost a year. Hit the ignition and two pumps of the pedal and it fired right up. Motor and interior are pretty much done, a few minor things to address. Chassis is good, thank goodness for Ziebart as this car came from the Catskills in N.Y. Hopefully we will finish body prep and send it for paint by the end of the week. Geez I don't like being in a hurry.
Franks right, it's the brides car, right now our second eldest son and his wife and kids are without transportation and in need badly so she came up with the idea of giving them her Windstar, defined: biggest piece of CRAP Ford ever made, and bottomless money pit. Which was fine by me as I cringed everytime she would tell me it was making a "funny noise". So she is gonna drive the Comet until such time as her sugar daddy can afford 20-25 grand for a new Escape. Dan if you find that shag carpet let me know, I can get by with this for awhile but it's gonna need replacing before long.
Just got off the phone with AAC ... they do make a Beige Shag (doesn't look like right color) but it is only available in certain year Trans Am ... not Maverick. Since AAC supplies just about everybody it does not look promising getting LDO Maverick replacement Carpet.
OK ... found a guy on eBay that gets his carpets custom made at a Carpet manufacturer in Dalton, GA. They have a Buckskin Shag available ... waiting to see if he can get it made for a Maverick ....
Hmm....Ripporter, you might think twice about the Escape. 2 years ago I worked at a Ford Dealership, The techs there absolutly hated working on Escape's. However in two years that leaves quite a bit of time for improvment.
I've seen those carpets Dan, if they are molded as well as the pic shows it looks like a good deal. I'll be thinkin 3 and 4 times before I buy anything new Rudy, the Escape is what she wants I was leaning toward a Sport-Trac but I'm not the one driving it..
He came back with a price of $175 + UPS ... But after looking at his samples I think that is actually just a denser carpet .. not longer shag type carpet. I emailed him back and explicitly said shag ... haven't heard back yet ......
See if he can send you a sample, Dan. Think your carpet is hard to find....try the light blue/grey in my 1974 LDO.
I'm sure we could easily get either one at Home Depot. Would be cool if you could just send them your flat carpet and they would glue and press it into shape for you ... This is the $175 stuff ... http://stores.ebay.com/Auto-Carpet-Professionals/Essex-Super-Plush-Carpet-Colors-NEW.html
