I ordered what I thought to be the correct hinge pins and bushings for my 73, but it turns out, the bottom hinge pin is a larger diameter than the top pin. Both the upper and the lower pins were both bucktailed, so, I'm assuming they were factory. Anyone else experience this and know what size the bottom pins are?

The pins should be the same size.

I bought a set from NAPA, and they worked out great. The best thing is that they are removable, kept in place by a cotter pin. It is tricky though, you have to put the top pin in upside down, or you will never get it back out with the hinge bolted to the door. Now the door can be pulled off the car for paint and reinstalled in the spot where the adjustment should still be correct.

If your hinges have already been rebuilt, the bushing hole might be augered out (like mine was). You can use passenger side hinges upside down on the driver side. They typically are a lot fresher than driver side hinges, which get used every time the car is driven. The same hinges were used on several Ford applications in those years too.

This turned out to be a previous owner apparently drilling out the lower hinge pin holes and replacing with larger pin/bushing. Welded the holes shut and re-drilled the right size.

Thanks Greg and Eric, I finished that project (at least for the drivers side, which was the problematic door. I looked at the passenger pins and they are the same as the replacements I have if I ever decide to replace them.
