I'm in a pickle, all... First of all, what are some situations that void the rechroming option? I saw in another thread someone saying something about not being able to rechrome because of pitting. I figured that'd be a main reason to rechrome... Second of all, does anyone know how much it would cost to get four cragars and two bumpers rechromed? I just need a ballpark because I'm stuck between getting new ones, or just getting 'em rechromed. I'll do whatever's cheaper... Thanks guys!
I think it would most likely be cheaper to buy a new set of cragars (at least here). Your pretty much stuck with re-chroming the bumpers Unless you want to paint them, I think chrome looks better though, imo.
Pits in pot metal must be filled in to rechrome (like in the boomerangs). That is what is so labor intensive and makes most chrome shops say forget it or pricing the repairs way up there. Chrome will show every flaw in a piece and will not fill in any bad spots. As for the rims - I agree new is the way to go. Get the bumpers rechromed - I recommend Tri City Plating if you do not have a local shop. Tri City used to do the small parts like boomerangs, but they have a new owner and he will no longer do small parts.
Well, I have fourteens and i don't really want fifteen's, but i want to keep the ten inches in the rear, but cragar doesn't make a 14x10 anymore, but i want to keep the cragars... The only problem with my rear rims is that they're peeling, I don't recall any pitting. I think I looked and saw bad corrosion on the bottom of my rear bumper, which probably isn't repairable... Autokrafters sells rechromed bumpers for $290+shipping n core... core I know is a hundred bucks... Does anyone know if they fill the holes in on the later model bumpers if you get them without the guards?? Thanks guys!
I could have sworn I saw NEW 14 x 10 Cragars at the last swap meet i went to....but maybe they were 15 x 10.
They were probably fifteens.... or they were rechromed fourteens, because I've called and been told that aren't made...
