Hello I have a Holley Street Avenger and I was wondering if it was Street legal in Texas on a 1974 Ford Maverick. It is the PART #: 0-80570 model of the Street Avenger. Any help would be great.
do ya'll have to do emissions checks down there? If not then anything's legal lol thats how it is here in OK
If you don't live in an emissions county(if you do It's probably ok, but I don't know. left Austin the year they started that) all you need is the EVAP system hooked up(doesn't have to work), the heat riser tube, and the EGR valve(but only if it was originally installed on the car and it doesn't have to work.) My Comet was a 250 from the factory without an EGR valve (New Hampshire car) So now with a 302 I don't have to have one. Your car may be exempt if you live in an emission county, so, you would only have to follow non-emission county standards. Call your local DPS office (and hold for three hours for the right person) or call an inspection station. Either way I'm sure the Carb is fine. When I took the test for my inspection certificate there was no mention anywhere about carbs other than they can't leak fuel(so you might not want that holley, sorry, I'm an Edelbrock guy and I couldn't resist). YellowStangDuan said it true though. No one knows what to look for anymore anyhow.
yeah i would have to agree that no one looks for any emissions equipment on old cars any more. most of the techs just know how to hook up the conector to the computer and it tells them if it passes or not. most don't even understand how to rebuild a carb. there is always ways to get things to pass i've heard storys of guys putting a stock carb back on there car to pass emissions and then throwing the aftermarket back on.
That's how I used to do it on my Comet when I used to be a yankee(some in Texas don't believe you ever stop being that)
Well thanks for all your help and as for the Yankee if you can survive summers in Texas your a local IMHO. LOL
