started to do my body work on the car, and I found this in one of my 2 areas that need attention, I knew there was plastic here, but never thought it was an inch thick, my door is probably the same way (explains why the car leans to the right) The metal underneath is all crinkled up, and the rust goes into the door jamb as well, I think it's a bad window gasket causing this. I was thinking about cutting up a bad fender with a good dogleg to piece in here, any suggestions? sorry about the clarity of the picture, I'm technology illiterate Shaun
WOW!!! definately should have been hammered out first! never have understood people not at least getting within a 1/4 of an inch. cant wait to see when its right
That's a sure sign that somebody had no idea how to do bodywork. Either that or they were just plain lazy.
well, just looking at the car, it's real straight, but I think that was the trick. anyone have a banged up drivers side fender they want to donate to the cause? Shaun I'm using a piece of a mustang 1/4 panel to fix the other side, but that should be easy, the inside of the trunk extension I think will be tricky
Wow that sucks. Have I ever mentioned I really hate Bondo... It has it's purpose, and that definately ain't it.
I saw a Gran Torino once that use to have rusted out quarters above the tire. This guy used about 2 inches or more of bondo to replace all of the metal that deteriorated. Word of advice, If you ever buy a car from a colder state. Walk around the car and knock on it with your fist, or bring along a magnet and run it across all of the body parts.
Sounds like mine. I got about a half inch of bondo off the passenger fender and about a quarter off the passenger door. I got the fender back to within in eighth of an inch before bondo, got the door within a quarter. Takes some time to get it right. Hell, with bondo, it takes some time to do it wrong too...
im getting ready to pull my driver side fender,,,,,you can have it if you want,,,,i dont know to get it to you,,,but you can have it it has a dent above the fender well and bent at the headlight light
I got a better one. A friend of mine fixed both rusted out rear quarters on his Camaro before he sold it. Used 2 gallon buckets of Bondo , made the foundation out of chicken wire!
tjhe 72 Chevelle I had was like that, I saw it starting to pop, and kicked it, the bondo just fell out, it was so thick, that in the 10 years it was on the car, some never hardened, my grandmother gave it to me, but I didin't know how to fix it at 16, off to the crusher it went
