Are mavericks supposed to have hood insulation on them? Did they come with this or was it an upgrade? I am wondering if i should install some or not.

    LDO Mavericks had it.

I would say it is your choice on whether to install it or not.

Not much use if you have any sort of functional scoop, fwiw.
Will hold heat in the engine bay. This can affect power output if that is a concern.
But then if that was a concern, I had you talked out of it with the 'extra weight' comment.

exactly... some people also worry about the heat disappating through the hood and causing a ripple effect in the paint and hood. i personally dont run one simply for letting the heat disappate and not stay under the hood...or so much soo...

So in you guys opinion do you think it will help with heat dissipation.I just dont want to install this if it is going to hold anymore heat in. Thanks...

I personally never seen paint damage from having insulation under the hood. All new cars come with some type of blanket under the hood. This is where most of the noise comes from, see: http://soundproofing.org/infopages/hoodliner.htm

As far as extra weight...I don't think its real heavy. A kid should be able to pick it up with one hand.

I have hood insulation and a functional scoop I put it in to weigh the front of the car down.....LOL no really it was to give the hood a cleaner look. Without all the 70's emmision crap I doubt if the hood gets hot enough to jack the paint.

Thack, did you cut that yourself or buy it precut?

I would install it just so the hood doesn't sound so hollow and cheap when I slam it shut...

All the liner does is HOLD heat in the engine compartment ... your better off without it .. Both my Mustang Maverick have had newly painted hoods with no liners ... and the Mustang runs HOT ... and paint on both hoods are fine ...

    I agree with Dan.
I think the only reason the factories use the stuff is for sound deadening.
I know there are some cars even today that are hit and miss if the factory put insulation. My late model Z28 had it, while some other guys had identical cars that came new without it. Hit and miss. No paint damage or other ills.
And those cars run hot too.
Also, the high line SS cars with fiber hoods don't have it at all.
