hey all so I'm trying to move forward on my 289 4speed swap, got hooker 6901 headers and passenger side fit great just had to cut down the idler arm upper bolt.but drivers side fits like crap.two of the primary pipes ar directly in the way of the pitman arm while turning left .its a 69.5 and is manual steering and manual brakes.also the collector is pointing to the passenger side a lot like 2 1/4 inches.also another primary tube is mashed against the frame.anyway anyone else have this problem and what headers did you use?

    Sorry about the pics

Is it a column shift automatic?

Meant to say "was it a column shift automatic" ? And are any of the shifting components in the way?

Also, I'm no expert in motor mounts so can anyone address the motor mount issues? Is this engine too far forward?

I'd recommend typing "hooker headers" in the search feature. Read the articles. There might be something there about motor mounts. Can anyone else help out here?

I have Hooker 6901s on my Comet's AFR headed 302 with no modifications what-so-ever. I also have manual steering and manual brakes. Both sides of the headers installed easily from the bottom. Unfortunately 70maverick6er, this is no help for you. :(

Hooker's quality control must not be very good!

Are you using the V8 trans crossmember? If not, the left tube looks like it's at the wrong angle, but it'll work with the double hump cross member. At least it did with my 70 which is the same as your 69 1/2.

Hey I purchased a v8 dual jump xmember from a maverick and it doesn't fit.so the i6 is just in there to hold up the tail.the picture doesn't show it great but shifted way to the passenger side.
And yes I think this header was made too close to "miller time"HotRock

The V8 crossmember will fit with a little trimming of the mounting ears and slotting the bolt holes.

my 6901 hookers also hit my pitman arm, I thought for the longest time that I had a steering issue. I scrapped my 6901's and replaced them with Headmen 88300 long tubes and they fit like a glove and the car has full lock turning now... I will never go back to the 6901.

These were the ones I was looking at. Seems like these are almost a direct copy of the 6901
