I have a 250 watt Pioneer stereo in my car that can really put the juice to the 6x9 Sony Xplode speakers in the back when I want it to. Problem I'm haveing is there is a horrible vibration comeing from somewhere around the rear package tray area of the car. It sounds like 2 pieces of metal vibrateing against each other, but I can't figgure it out. If it really booms hard, the vibration noise it makes is just absolutely gruesome. One of the worst noises I have ever heard. Just makes you want to go scrape a chalk board, I'm tellin' ya.

Is it normal for the rear package trays in these cars to vibrate? Or is there anything specific I need to look for that would commonly cause vibration noise in the rear of the car? After all, it did come with like a 10 watt AM Radio from the factory. :) I've noticed it dosen't seem as bad when people are sitting in the back seat. Is there supposed to be any sort of sound deadening material behind the back seat?

    Things I would check,
    junk in the trunk
    Speaker shelf in rear channel
    Seat belt mounts
    seat cushions
Braces from front center of shelf to floor, behind top cusion

Do you have a layer of insulation between the rear deck and the package tray? If not put one in there ...

Nope, no kind of insulation behind the seat. Thats kind of what I was thinking. I'll pull the back seat out and see if I can still hear it.

also while its out you may want to make sure the backing between the seat and trunk isnt starting to tear. i had a small tear that would vibrate real bad from my woofers. couldnt hardly see it, but sure sounded bad.

There is nothing between the seat and trunk. The thought never crossed my mind that the seat could be vibrateing. I figgured that the way it is mounted, it would be secure enough to not vibrate. I will pull it out and put in my bass CD with the seat out tomarrow and see if it still makes noise.

    Thanks.

hmm, on mine there is a thin cardboard like backing to protect the seat filling and insulate the interior from the trunk.

My car has a long and intresting history which includes the front and back seats being replaced several times. It even had high back buckets in it in the late 70's, but the old lady that had it then had a bench put back in so she could have her purse sit next to her. :slap: :cussing:

The only thing original in my interior is the carpet and dash. I'm sure any insulation behind the seats got ripped out and trashed many years ago.

Yea, she was the second owner and had it from '76-'84. I guess she was an older lady since she was the third owners grandmother.

Well, it was the back seat vibrateing. Any suggestions on what I should put behind it? I'm just leaving the back seat out for the time being since only one girl is rideing to school with me Monday and Tuesday. The other 3 people that ride with me are all skipping school Monday and Tuesday and going out of state for Thanksgiving. So no need for a back seat for another week or so. :)

maybe you should leave a little earlier;). you could try making sure all the mounting brackets are tight on the seat, do you know what part of the seat is vibrating?

There really aren't any mounting brackets other then the 2 things at the top that the seat drops down onto and the 2 places at the bottom where there are 2 screws. I really think I need to sandwich some kind of sound deadner or something back there, but I'm not sure exactly what I should get?

It seems to be the metal frame of the seat back vibrateing against the metal of the car.
