the new issue of hot rod 6/06 issue, well not out yet, but will be soon talks about "Hot Rods as Hot Investments." it talks about how certain cars bring crazy $$$ but it shows a photo of a Comet and talks about that comet at Barrett Jackson that went for $10,260.

of course is says this: "Who would have ever thought an original comet or maverick would fetch that kind of money?"

it also continues to say "Personally, we're not sure what to think about the ramifications of these bidding frenzies"

i wasn't to sure to take that about everything or just maverick and comets.

thought you should all take a look out for it ;)

I remember that like it was yesterday, and it was sold on ebay for $20,100.

And it was an un-modified 1972 Maverick with only 49,500 original miles.:drive:

I think after that people started looking at Maverick's & Comet's alot differently.

I read that the other day.
I think they were speaking in "general" but used the Comet as an example.

I think Barrett Jackson has done as much to harm the hobby as the have to help it. Sure, a lot more fantastic cars from our past are being saved, but look at what it has done to the market---$1,000,000 for cars that only cost less than $10,000 new. Sure they are worth more now than when they were new for the simple reason that not many are left, especially in excellent condition, but I think they have overpriced them. Most of the bidders are collectors who will never drive these cars, they will be put in storage somewhere, many never to be seen again. Thats one thing I like about Jay Leno, his cars are driven regularly, be it a hemi Cuda or a Stanley Steamer. He may give a big price for them, but he also realizes that cars were built for a purpose--to drive! I think some of these high dollar bidders could care less about what a car has or what it can do, they are just looking to invest their money with the idea of reselling at a later date for a profit. I know I will never be in the big leagues, 'cause when I buy a car, I never get out of it what I have in it when it's time to sell, I usually end up losing money. But at least I usually get to enjoy making a car do what it was designed to, carry my butt places!:)

That 20 grand maverick is a myth, and I am one of the people directly involved in the scam of that proposed sell. It did not happen.
