As the title says, 6 hours out of my life in pulling the engine and trans out of my 77 Maverick. It has power steering and A/C. It is a southern car and I was amazed that the exhaust even came off without breaking the studs. But I did use heat on them first. In fact, I was amazed that I did not break any bolts anywhere. Cars up this way usually have rusted up something somewhere that wont come apart. Going to do some sprucing up under the hood and put in a different 250, original one is tired. I have pulled engine and trans in 2 hours before when I didnt really care about anything. I was shocked when I came in the house and realized I was out there for 6 hours. Getting slow in my old age. And I am darn well feeling it tonite. Dan
sounds like a good 6 hours! And getting slow in your old age, might have helped contribute to the fact that you didn't brake anything
Ditto what John said Dan.Besides, doing it at a leisurely pace makes it that much more enjoyable. It is supposed to be a hobby afterall.besides it took me 2 hrs to take the sprint apart today and I thought that was slow too.
this is the way i look at it also..."you don't have to have it running to go to work on Monday." ...enjoy...:Handshake
John; any time spent on your car is better than any time spent at work......just doesn't pay as well!!!!!
Takes me 45 minutes to pull an I6 with C4 attached, without breaking anything. As long as the nuts come off the exhaust manifold easy.
You're not getting slower, Dan. You're just taking your time and doing things right. Dale told me back in his younger days he could pull an engine and tranny in just under 2 hours, but that also included a lot of broken bolts and busted knuckles. Everything was done as if he were in a NASCAR garage. Who cared if the bolts broke off. We'll drill them out later. Hand me that box of band-aids. Now he takes his time and gets the job done in about the same amount of time you do. Far less broken bolts to drill out ( which saves time later ) and he enjoys doing the job more. Still have to keep that box of band-aids on hand, though.
You guys are right,, it is supposed to be a hobby. This really is the first time ever I did it at a leisure style pace. Now today, my foot is too swollen to do much walking and I am trying to keep it elevated. I will take pics next weekend, leaving early in the morning for greater parts of the midwest for my job. Dan
AAAHHH. I usually take 2 days getting the engine out and 1 week recuperating. Where you going in the midwest?
