I am going to start on another Mav project. I want cubes!!!!!! Right now I am studying the huge amount of cubes one can get out of a 351 windsor. I want a stock hood and was wondering if a 351W that had aluminum heads would still fit under a stock hood? I understand that some of them have a taller deck height? I want a NEW block and from what limited info I have retained, there are options. If not, then might as well go mustang II front suspension and go bigblock?
    Thanks
    Dan

Dan, I don't know about the 351W, but if I was going to take on a project like that, I would go all out and get the Mustang II kit. In mind my mind, you will have a whole lot more room in there to do whatever you want! Also, improved steering etc. I would talk to Tom Hackman, and ask he how much he likes it. This mod is one that I would love to do one day! In my opinion it would be one of the best mods. (y) Just my two cents worth. :)

351's stroked to 427 cid are common. I've heard of some going to 450+ cid. My dream engine is an all aluminum 351 stroked 427 using a Ford Racing aluminum block, AFR heads, etc. It would weigh some 30 lbs less than my 302.

under stock hood with AFR 185 heads.....dont go over a 408 cid with a stock type block...... to go above the 408 should use the sportsmen block and the only res i did not go 408 is that all the ones i see around here in mustangs tend to run on the hot side ......i fig with a small rad as the maverick has it would just make it hard to drive on the streets .....i did a lot of home work before i got the 393 i realy wanted to go 427 but the 393 is great pulls hard to 6900 rpm ton of torque[IMG]

Mustang & Ford just had a awesome write up on engine size. Pretty neat tool to know the sizes of all the engines.

What are you gonna do with it Dan?? Will this be a mostly street car or do you want it to do it's best at the dragstrip?? With the technology that is available today you can get big block power out of a small block that weighs alot less!!

how fast you want to go depends on how much you want to spend. my car is built to fit the rules of my class. i asked my builder about a 347. he said i would probably not be able to slow it down enough so we went with a 308. still would like to try the 347 sometime. last run was a 12.14 at 111 degrees. has gone faster every time out.

If you are just simply going for the wow factor and will just tool around in the car ocassionally you would be fine with one of the well engineered 427 W stroker kits. Coast high performance claims that there 427 kits will easily go in excess of 100,000 normal driving miles with no oil consumption problems. If you want to go bigger then that you would probably need to go with one of the aftermarket blocks that can go up to 450+ cubic inches.......bigger then that and you'll have to go with a big block!!;)

I'll tell you what though, the sound of a 500+ cubic inch mountain motor in the comet sure would be nice!!!!

4.125" bore Dart aluminum block 9.2" deck with Yates big port C3 heads (NASCAR takeoffs). Dont see any problem making close to 900 HP naturally aspirated..more on alcohol. I've seen guys with motors like that make 1500-1800 HP on nitrous. You could have 450+ inches, all the torque a man would need, and enough HP to demolish most of the competition, assuming you could get some traction.

Ok, I guess I can stop dreaming now.

I've seen a 302 bored and stroked to 355 cid. Used a 351C crank, 2 sets of 2.3L Pinto rods and 350 "C word" pistons. Probably didn't make any more power than a 347.
