How much Rust Bullet for the trunk?

I am just about finished with sanding and getting my trunk ready. How much Rust Bullet did it take for you to do your trunks? I know it takes two coats as well to fully cure. Which one did you use? The automotive or regular?

Also, I was thinking about doing one coat of the regular automotive, and one coat of the Black Shell.

If I got one of the six-packs, could I do my whole entire truck inside fully?



Thanks for the help in advance. I just don't want to order too little, and mess up the curing while waiting another week for a new shipment.

 

If I remember when I did mine, (http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=35513), I used almost two quarts. But I also used fiberglass which soaked up more. I used the automotive (silver can). Buy a quart can and then buy the small cans. Rust Bullet doesn't do to good after being opened.

 

I use the 6 pack of small cans...1 can goes a long way.

 

So those 6pk of cans did your whole trunk? For both coats?

I am wanting to do the entire trunk. Top to bottom, side to side. I want to fix it once and know it will be there forever.

I used about 2-1/2 quarts for 2 coats. This covered from wiper pivots to tail lights...inside quarter panels from doors to tail panel and roof. Get everything ready to paint before opening up a can. You will have about 3 days after opening a can before it goes too thick to paint. Use cheap paint brushes because you want to throw them away instead of cleaning them. Follow the directions on the label.

 

If your trunk has a smooth surface rust versus pitted surface rust, you will use a lot less Rust bullet. Rust Bullet naturally fills and levels low spots. Scrape off all the loose rust, wipe it down with acetone, and apply the Bullet. If you buy too much for this project, you will use it on another because you will absolutely love the stuff. Rust Bullet acts as its own primer and you can sand it and paint it. Do like Jeff said and use cheap, throw away brushes. I also heartily recommend wearing clothes you don't mind throwing away. Wear a long sleeve shirt and nitrile gloves. You get that stuff on you and it is with you for several days. If you apply the Rust Bullet indoors, wear a mask.

 

Thanks for all the help everyone! Greatly appreciated. Terry, my trunk is in really good shape. There is only 1 pin hole, and a hole about the diameter of a pencil in the tire well. It mainly had surface rust. I've since took a heavy duty grinding wheel to it all. All that's left to finish is the inner quarters.

 

I just ordered it. They have a deal running on Ebay at the moment. 10% off and free shipping. So I went ahead and ordered it from their Ebay. I got the car undercarriage kit. 2 quarts of automotive, and 1 quart of Black Shell. The price they had the whole kit listed for was a lot cheaper than buying 3 individual quarts. Plus, the kit comes with the metal blast spray, brushes, and gloves.

No, not yet. It just came in yesterday and on top of that it's been raining for the past 3 days.

 

I did mine using marine grade fiberglass matte and a small paint roller (2 coats). Stronger now than when it first rolled off the assembly line. Then put black indoor/outdoor carpet on it. Turned out very nice. Actually did entire underside of the car as well, inner quarter areas (brushed by hand) and finally used it as sealer for paint on whole car before paint (sprayed using 1.8 tip). Love this stuff! But as has been said, wear clothes and hair covering unless you want to wear it on you for awhile! lol Flows really well, and works as described.
