I have a ford 8 inch rear when I jack up the car and turn the drive wheel one rotation forward I count 1.3 rotations on the driveshaft what would this put my gearing at???? 1.35 is this a real gear ratio or am I doing something wrong????? I cannot find any gear close to this number I am confused now....
I would put a mark on the shaft, put a mark on the inside of the tire at 6 o'clock. Jacked up, both wheels up, jack stands, you under the car, wheels chocked, tranny in neutral... Count how many times the mark on the shaft comes around to make the mark on the tire come back to 6 o'clock position. You should find it takes either 2 3/4 turns (2.79 gears) or 3 turns (3.00 gears). Gotta make the mark (chalk is good) on the driveshaft go all the way around to count one turn. There will probably be a little slack before the wheel turns from the shaft. Don't count until the slack is gone. Go slowly and deliberately. I generally will spin the shaft once, watching the shaft, and stopping on the first revolution. Count out loud each time the shaft mark comes around, and stop to look at the tire. Last time around, you can tell, slowly get the mark back to 6, or where it lost slack, then judge the position of the shaft mark in relation to where it started.
