Good evening, I have a '72 Maverick that was said to be a Grabber. How can I tell if it is a true Grabber? It also has a v-8, factory air, and bucket seats, all seems to be original I would just like to be positive about it if possible thank's.

You can tell by the Vin #. for example if the Vin is 3X93F000000. if it has 93 in the Vin # it's a true Grabber.

By the Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N.) on the driver-side of the dash. That's really the only way. Grabber is nothing more than a trim option for a Maverick...

    That is great!

Thank's for the help. My vin does have 93 in it.
A friend of mine paid some good money for a GTO on ebay that has lemans fenders. It just had me suspicious.
How far does the vin# breakdown on the older cars?

If you mean what does it tell you about the car. The first Character tells you the year for example 3 (1973) the second character tells you the Assembly Plant it was manufactured in, And the third character tells you if it it's a 4-door, 2-door, Grabber, And the fourth character tells you what Engine it came with example F=302V8, And the numbers at the end are the consecutive unit number. hope this helps.

Identifying a true grabber??? not so easy

today I got a 1970 ford maverick....its not so easy to tell if its a grabber...as I thought it might be.
Ok, I read the emails that say if it has a 93 in the vin..its a grabber. mine does have a 93 in the vin#. But I also read on here that some other people posted that you cant really tell by the vin#....that its all in the style..like the fin on the back-blacked out rear end...stripes down the sides..and the hood. soo im really trying to research this and find out once and for all. any body who would reply to this and give me some pointers....sure would appreciate it. my car has the hood with the two little air breathers on the side.....I think its called a dual domed hood(???) not really sure...all the pics of the 1970 grabber ive looked up on google looks just like my car...it has been painted..now its orange with the black striping on it but it used to be vermillion red with the black stripes on it. I just really would like to know a failsafe way of knowing if its a grabber or not. thanks again for reading my posting and any help would be great! thank you all so very much! lisagail

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Well 70 is the only year where you cant tell by the VIN. Also 70 grabbers had a flat hood. Only the 71-72 had the hoods with the scoops. I think marti might be able to tell you if its a real one. http://www.martiautoworks.com

    Me too!!:biglaugh:

Anyway for lisagail, the 70 did not have a 93 in the vin# designating a grabber. What is the first number in the vin#? Where in the vin is the 93?:)

If you have a 1970 Maverick .. with a 93 in the VIN ... somebody swapped VIN numbers on that car ... be careful ...
