how to read a comet VIN

    anyone on here know how read a comet VIN to tell me what year it is? i pulled some parts off a comet that i found at the junk yard but i dont know what year it is. i have the VIN though and I was hoping that would help.

    First number in the VIN is the model year. Example, a 1 for '71, 2 for '72, and so on.

    example: 2K31F123456
    2=1972 (year) (1=71 2=72 3=73 etc.)
    K=Kansas City assembly plant (X=St. Thomas plant and F=Dearborn plant)
    31=Comet 2dr (body style)
    F=302 (engine size; F=302 T=200 L=250 U=170)
    123456=last 6 digits are that car's unit number
