Hey folks, I was wondering what the best way is to remove paint from chrome tail light trim? I have a set of Bobcat tail lights that have had the chrome trim painted black, and I want the chrome back. The lights were given to me, so I don't know when they were painted....Is it possible to remove the paint? Thanks y'all!! Preston

HAHAAHAHAHAHAA!!!! (oh sorry didn't mean to laught outloud) But seriously yes it is possible but it take a bit of elbow grease. I think this was talked about several months back and most guys here use to old steel wool and a lot of rubbing method, but as I recall there was someone that used a chemical compound that made it really easy in comparison. Try doing a search if you haven't already. Just be careful if you decide to use a chemical stripper because those tailight bezels aren't really chrome, they are polished aluminum and some chemicals can etch and ruin aluminum pretty easily. If it were me I would try a little spot of oven cleaner and some steelwool but be careful and test a spot that won't show first. Also keep plenty of water nearby to flush the Oven cleaner off if it starts eating the metal

I used brake fluid on them and it worked fine. We strip plastic models that where painted that way and it doesn`t hurt the plastic and it washes off with water.

I recommend aircraft paint stripper. It comes in an aerosol can.

Beat me to it! I have a set of sport light bezels that were painted black when I got them, and have been painted for years and years (read: protected from the sun). Used the aircraft stripper on them, and the chrome underneath came out super nice.

I used this stuff I got at Lowes called "Jasco Premium Paint and Epoxy Remover" to strip paint off my front headlight rings. It's very strong I had to wear 2 to 3 pairs of latex gloves. It's a jell and I took a tooth brush to spread it on and it works real fast with little effort.

They came both ways,.I've had a set that were pot metal, and the set I have now are anodized aluminum, just like the regular Mav bezels.

Ohh, also forgot to mention that the aircraft stripper works very well as a degreaser.
