I bought a replacement for the factory speaker. It's the 5x7 Dual Voice Coil speaker from Custom Autosound. I'm gonna get around to installing it sooner or later, but I need to know how to get that terrible factory speaker out first. I have factory A/C in my 74, if that helps.

1/4 ratchet with a 1/4 socket I had to pull the ash tray and center vent to get to mine
(no heater box or ducts in my car though) hands got cut pretty good by the sharp dash metal

You will need to remove the fan assembly on the side of the AC box. No need to remove the entire AC box. take off bottom ductwork. Up inside where the ductwork was attached is a nut. Remove this nut. Now the fan assembly will rotate and come off.

For what its worth, if your speaker holes dont line up in the same place, you can cut the middle of the old speaker out and slide the old framing over the new speaker to hold it in place. Saves you from trying to drill new holes.
