I've never pulled it off a Maverick but if its like other cars you usually pull it from one direction. Usually it you pull from the end by the back window and continue till the whole piece comes off. Of course like I said I've never done a Mav that was GM stuff. Just be careful and take your time, and dont get pissed!
I used a small pair of channell locks with a piece of rubber tubing on the upper part of the pliers so not to scratch. Then I pryed gently like using a bottle opener described. That bottle opener trick may work better. It'll look funny when it is off too but I think it should be ok once reinstalled. Good luck Hotrod!
I spray PB blaster a day ahead of time all over them(to seep in underneath). Then I clean off. Then I slide them off with my hands. Done mine and my brothers this way. Did all my chrome this way. Getting the rear window chrome back on involved a pissed off teenager taking a rubber mallet to it . Young and dumb....
