Im Wondering how they painted the 71 Grabber stencil on hood from the factory, Do you suspect they painted the whole hood Body color first, waited for it to dry, then stenicled it and painted the blackout?
Since the hoods were painted off the cars, I would think they would have just done it after. My Grabber hood had 4-5 coats of paint on it when we stripped it, so it was hard to tell, and one year had a decal (I don't know which) There are some pic's around of faded Grabber hoods, you may be able to tell form those.
71 My 71 grabber when i got it was in orgunial paint and the black out part of the hood was so faded it was bearliy visable. jay
They used a paint template.Painted body color/installed template/painted corresponding Grabber stripe color. Now remember they did these probably 10 or twenty hoods at a time(sometimes all in the same colors). So 10 or 20 templates. They were only masked by hand for special builds/repair at the assembly plant.Time was money so you can see why such a step would need to be simple.
