Just joined the board (yesterday) and wanted to say Hi. I have just loaned my daughter my most recent project as I do not want her riding her bike around in the winter, so the restoration process is not going to start until the spring. First Mav was a '70 Sport (bought in '77), kind of the "test" run for the Grabber. Had the yellow/black paint and the trunk spoiler but no hood scoops, and had the 200 cid straight 6 with 3 on the tree. Had that sucker up to 115 mph once. 'Bout scared the crap outta me! Second was a '74 (250 cid) I bought with my daughter. She ran the oil out of it ("I didn't think that red light was important" she knew better-she changes her own oil for cryin' out loud). Found a local doner that was trashed but ran ok and swapped engines. She still has that one and wants to fix up, but right now it ain't runnin so good so she's borrowed mine. This one is a '70 (according to the title and the VIN on the dash), but the sticker on the shock tower says it complies to all USA automotive standards for 1972. It has a 302, which was not an option in '70, and has a Mustang front end (I had to take the disc brake pads into Auto Zone and match up because the '70's all had 4 wheel drum). the engine looks like the original (you can usually tell a swap) so I'm kinda leanin' toward a special order, but that shock tower sticker kinda throws me. Either way though, cars built before '75 are not required to have DEQ certification in Oregon so it's all good in that respect. I have already located a true Grabber hood from a fellow forum member, and look forward to many more occasions to interact, and look forward to meeting some of you, someday, somewhere. Be safe. Howdy and welcome. Is your gas tank also the floor of the trunk?. Only the 70 Maverick had a drop in gas tank, All the rest have a trunk floor and the tank bolts underneath.
Thanks Mavaholic I will look for that as soon as my daughter takes the car to the locksmith and get the trunk key remade since she lost it. :>) J
