Just tryin to figure out the power i need to go 10.60's or quicker in a full interior sub frame connectors only no cage maverick. currently 8.8 rearend 4.88 gears 4500 stall manual valve body light weight internal c4 trans aluminum ford motorsports drive shaft. 342 with victor jr heads and a parker funnel with a 750dp holley. motor should make in the ball park of 480-520hp at the crank. weld drag lights if it helps. oh and caltracs
That should get you close...but I'm not sure you're going to find anywhere that's going to let you run that fast without at least a roll-bar...but to each his own. Traction is going to be your biggest limiting factor.
My old combination was a 408 stroker, 750 holley on a victor junior intake, 1" spacer, .670 lift roller, old ported J-302 alum cylinder heads, 500hp at the crank, full interior with a 10-pt cage, car weighed 3100 with me in it, 5000 stall converter C-4, 9x29 slick with 4:88 gear. Went 10.62 to 10.72 according to weather.
at the local tracks they don't worry about cages. It the 342 is a high compression engine with a solid roller I could see it coming close
i will also be squeezing it. but i just wanted to see how fast it would go on the motor. it is a .630lift hydrolic roller cam with .258 .262 @50 i believe with a 106-107 lobe separation. dont have the card in front of me just going off the top of my head.
the eighth mile tracks here dont require anything. we have one about an hour away. the car will be on 28/9 drag slicks or 28/10.5 drags, drag radials or 28/12.5 et streets. same as what i always had on my fox body just what ever i could get my hands on. i dont believe traction will be an issue i have dealt with a lot of caltrac cars and been lucky so far.
The motor sounds capable, has the car run with kind of HP before, I mean is the chassis setup or are you starting from scratch. Are you planning on sometype of cage or at minimum a subframe connectors? My old combo was a 408 like Bigford598 but my cam was 704lift, special Roush/Yates heads and 2spd Powerglide with 4:56's. The car ran an all motor 9.801 and it weighs 3325 with me and 5 gallons of 116.......Oh yes, it did have 15:1CR.
If my local track didn't worry about cages or roll bars at 10.60 or so, I wouldn't be racing there. I value my safety. What track is near Quartz Hill, Ca? Is it a sanctioned track?
I would have to go with Don on this, if they don't value your safety I wouldn't be risking my neck to race there either. Does this place actually have any tech???????????? I didn't think there were any sanctioned 1/8 tracks except Barona and Rialto in Southern California..................maybe I'm wrong????? IMHO
irwindale and i dont believe so to many people get away with to many things...and yes subframe connectors. in all honesty it will probably make it to the track maybe once or twice...i am building it for a street car. i know a lot of you dont care for that but there are a lot of street race cars out here that are no joke. just tryin to be competitive. we dont race through town or anything like that. its a vacant street that has been used since the 60's for just this. you can see it on google earth... its a good street...any how i dont want to ramble but the more of a daily street car it looks and so on the better my odds are if that makes any sense. i have been out of it for about 3 years now and its time to make a come back. and i would love to see what lonnie had done thanks again...and hate me if you'd like but besides irwindale 1/8th mile that is almost 2.5 hours away with traffic and bakersfield same amount the other direction there is no track anymore. ours closed down in 2007. LACR thanks again for your time i will eventually put a cage in the car over winter time.
I cant find his article online, but here's the specs from the magazine: http://i51.tinypic.com/2lsxh1i.jpg It ran a 8" , the 8.8" is a typo.
you can try sending him a message on here, his video links aren't working anymore for some reason http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=37866 EDIT: I found one on youtube
