Ok on Adams, Bryants, and Mo's Hydraulic clutch setup they are having to take off the E-brake handle. What are you guys doing about that, or what have others done to relocate the ebrake. Could probably get some kind of floor hump mounted one and modify the cables some how. Or maybe a floor mounted hydraulic handbrake, Ive seen for around $200 or so. Any other options or something that has already been done? I don't really want an ugly cabble e-brake on my hump. And I wouldn't feel safe parking with just the clutch holding the car in place.
I'm planning to use a Hump hand brake. Using the instructions on the http://www.dazecars.com website.
I got plenty of wheel chocks here at work I can grab you a set if you want? LOL I personally am not worried about it... 1. my car is basically going to be a track car not much street driving. 2. I grew up in Wisconsin where in no way shape or form if you did not use your e-brake on a daily basis to not ever pull it. All the garbage up there as far as mud salt and rust it would only work ONCE. But yeah best bet is to switch over to a pinto hand brake setup or something similiar if your worried about it.
We can also take an in depth look at my sn-95s setup, those are pretty plentiful in the junkyards here and should be able to adapt something with out too much work. I even have my e brake cables on my mav that need to come off you can have them if you want I will just take them off nicely. Also have a cable setup for an explorer rear disk setup you can have if you need even more pieces.
I checked out the article on Daze Cars, it looks pretty complicated and I don't have acess to a drill press or able to farbicate those brackets. Maybe I can come up with an easier way to do the cable style brake. May need to check out the junyards for different type handles. Ive seen some cars where both cables go up into the handle, that would be a little easier and eliminate having to make that equalizer bar and bracket if the cables are long enough to get into the car.
Didnt the later year Mavericks have a foot parking brake? wonder if that could be adapted to an earlier car.
'76-'77 had the foot pedal along / above the DS kick panel. The cable assembly has a different pivot arm design that mounts on a stud, spot welded to the bottom of the floor behind the frame rail extension (under driver's side seat)
Lokar offers a hand brake set up for the street rodder crowd..I should think their set ups ould work in a Mav...They are cable operated though.
I'm working on a handbrake set up out of a 1995 Mustang. Lokar makes the cables, as does hot rods USA. The hand brake is self contained with a ratchet and extension cable with an equalizer bar that connects to the 2 individual cables. Haven't ironed out the details but it looks like if you could cut the tunnel out of the Mustang where the ratchet mounts 10" forward, 12" toward the back and down the RH side of the tunnel about 8" would get you all the sheet metal and bracketry that is spot welded to the bottom of the tunnel. I plan on attaching the entire tunnel on top of the Maverick tunnel to allowfor the cables and mechanism to clear the driveshaft.
The Lokar handle looks pretty nice. Has a good bolt pattern that shouldnt be too hard to mount unlike alot of the OEM ones. Shouln't be too hard to use the original cable once its cut. and its nice and low profie. Since the cable hooks up under the floor it would be alot easier to hook up than the Mustang handle they used in the Daze Car article. Handle and boot run around $130.
im planing on the dazecars method also. if i was to do this again i would use a differnt style assembly. i think i could keep the parking brake handle this way. i would mount a mastercylinder on the engine side of the fire wall where the hole for the stock clutch rod goes through. useing the cnc pedal bracket mounted on the inside of the fire wall then the pedal would have to have some bends put into it to move it over to clear the brake pedal. the brake pedal has these bends in it already so you would just have to mimic those bends.
