Has anybody tried going for that "sleeper look" and raced with factory hubcaps? I know it seems silly but I have witness a while back at a NMCA race in Memphis, Rick Moroso racing the family Corvette with the original hubcaps that were grade 8 bolted to the rims. I believe tech had to see the lugnuts and studs only for inspection.

You know............................sleeper for the street is kind of neat, but sleeper look for the strip......................it doesn't work for me, but with that said, I guess it's whatever floats your boat.
At the strip it's the one that gets to the finish line first..................that's the only thing that counts..............IMHO

well me and a freind built him a 69 nova sleeper. 450 horse small block chevy. full quiet exhaust. factory green tinted windows and the factory hub caps. we put a set of 10 inch wide wheels on the rear and mounted the hub cap to them like a beadlock then painted a white wall stripe on the 27 11 slick to match the front . coulb barely hear the car run and if you didint look at it from the rear you'd never know it ran low 11's

i think there is a safty issue of the hub cap flying off and hiting someone. ive never checked nhra's rule book on that issue but i sure wouldnt feel good about it if that happened to me. now if you make it so the hub cap is bolted on some how then thats a different story.

Here ya go. At the track running the factory hubcaps and 185/75/14 tires. I ran a 14.34 with a 2.47 60" time from spinning those little tires.

    Hi Guys,

Found this thread screwing around on lunch.

Here are a couple picks of our car when we were running the hub caps. Not the best, but you can get the idea. I was just trying to make the car look as "stock" as possible.

We made the knock-offs functional, with left hand threads on the right side so the would not back off. They never even loosened up! When we raced at Atlanta, they made us take them off even though they liked the idea. Every place else let us run them once we showed them how the attached.

    Rick

    Rick,

I had a 61 Corvette street car and loved it during dry weather, but your old car really makes the "hub caps" look good......................certainly not quite a sleeper look though, kind of a dead giveaway with the chute and slightly oversided rear slicks and that huge air scoop..............Love those early Corvettes!
Did the car actually run in H/S?

    Hi Guys!

I'll be happy to help when I can!

We did run it in Hot Street for years. Our best pass was an 8.65 @ 152 with our n/a 363 SBC at 2975 lbs. 1.20 60 foot.

    Rick
