Well, I guess I should apologize for being so bull headed. German and Irish genes kick in at various times. Used to be able to control the temper but age and day to day crisis are becoming hard to deal with. Starting with a very long battle with the VA over an agent orange claim, and finally winning a small disability and health care award, things looked better. Then the old pc took a crap and that was not good. Mavman fixed it for me and am still trying to restore a lot of stuff on the new drive. Am spending much time at VA hospital in Little Rock and that is not a pleasent few hours a day. Thanking everybody for the compliments on my small amount of knowledge picked up over the years from hands on expericence with various aspects of automotive repair and racing. Don't consider myself to smart on a lot of stuff because it dates so far back. Try to keep up with new stuff from you guys and my sons, who by the way, end up getting my brain engaged in the right mode most of the time. Bought a Harley clone(Kawasaki Vulcan Classis) and try to ride it into the hills each morning to get some kind of stress relief. Seems to work except when it rains, can't ride and so go to garage and work on something else thats broke etc. Racing my Fairmont is another outlet and still love to do it but car runs good, driver sleeps at light or busts a red one. Still fun and that is the name of the game anyway. Will try to visit this board more often now that the heat and humidity is here to stay in Arkansas and afternoons are spent inside in the precious air conditioning. Thanks all for listening.
Sweet! It's great to have you back! Everyone as missed your input, answers to questions and your German and Irish views. Sorry to hear about the health problems and like everyone else I will be praying for you. Welcome back! Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
WELCOME BACK DAVE! It's good to see your text on here again! Sounds like the Mont is keeping you busy. What kind of e.t.'s and 60 foots are you pulling now? How bout the Mav? What's the numbers on it? (All these questions! ) Anyway, it's good to see you back and I look forward to absorbing more of your wisdom and experience that you kindly share. Sincerely, Rick btw, here's a pic of a Fairmont at this year's Fun Ford Weekend in Houston. 'Saw it and thought about you. He didn't have it tuned real well. His 60's were horrible but it came on strong at the end of the 1/4.......138ish. I understand he has it dialed in now. (I want a Mont too! )
Hello !!! Old Guy it is good to have you back on the board. I hope that you recover from the health issues soon. Be careful on that 2 wheeler. Seth
Rick's answers Well here goes, the Mav is a terror, traction is still a thorn in one's butt. Cal-Trac's are working well but 28x10.5 slicks are not enough patch on the ground to get the numbers it should. Track conditions don't help either. 1.46 to 48 60ft and 6.81 1/8th times. 8.80's at 112mph. Coil over 4 link and MII front end is next project. Need to get rid of those cut towers and put some decent size headers on. Has run 8.57 @ 114-116 when cool weather and good track. My Mont looks similiar to the one you posted except painted Kubota tractor orange(courtesy of Mavman and his dealership). 302 is still humping at 9.30's to 40's on 9in tires in 1000ft 105-106. 60ft is 1.59-1.61 on slick track, 1/8th is 7.30's (7.20 in cool weather). We built this car with a Maverick rear leaf spring set up had laying around. It needs coil overs and ladder bars someday plus the 351w out of Mavman's Maverick, hint hint. Am still running the 10yr old Fairbanks 4000 convertor, still flashes 3800, wish they still made em. could use another few hundred out of the hole. By the way looks like the downpipe in the pic could be a turbo setup maybe. Thanks all for the kind words and as always "Fords Rule"
Ya that car is a twin turbo...seems to work alright too! http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/8408/right.html I know its not a maverick, but some one should do a similar set up to one!
Hello Dave, I saw you were missing a little here on the board. I to, just got out from a heart job. Son and I are now moveing toward a 351W sportsman sprint car. Have the rolling chassis, a new sportsman block, N351 heads, super victor intake. Waiting for the rotating assembly to come. It is a lot of fun modeling the engine on a software dyno program. Run a chev and Ford through and there is not a lot of difference except a small difference in stroke. The numbers come up in the 540 hp range, so we should be able to run as well as all the GM power that everybody uses. One other Ford running and in the top 5 plus win a feature now and then. There is still some challenges to overcome using this motor because it is seldom done in this kind of car, at least up in the northeast. The motor plate is the bigest problem. Sunday evening went to see the 410 sprints and the ARDC midgets run on a short track. What I thought I would see them do is lift the front end down the straight but it didn't happen. The track we will be running has a sticky clay surface and the 358 - 4 barrel engines on alky lift the front end nearly a foot in the air all the way down the chute on the 1/3 mile track. Well, it is time to start prepping the block and the heads to start getting ready to try the car out this season yet, then give it hell next year. Sorry for talking to much about what I am into but I don't know much about what your pleasure might be except drag racing and think you were into circle track racing at one time. I wish you all the best. Were both just big kids, I guess, doin it all the way to the end.
Think I first stumbled on to this board in 98. Seen some come and go. Glad to have you back!! and K. Merring, take care of yourself. This is just the best board on the WWW. Dan
Welcome Back to the Board Dave!!! It's great to see your post on the board!!! Looks like I wasn't only one thinking about ya! Sorry to hear about your health problems, and I keep you in our prayers. It's great to hear that you are still involved with your cars and with your sons. If you get a chance, like to see you post a picture of your Mav that your are racing and your Fairmont. I gotta keep this short. I seen your post and I had to jump in here real quick. Take care,
Ken Merring Hope you are getting along ok, I too, am an avid circle tracker but age and expense prohibit any participation. Drove many years in karts and stock cars, got a ride in a midget for awhile, V8 60 flatty on alcohol. One small roll bar and a hand brake and fuel pressure pump on side of cockpit, quick chge rear and skinny tires. Still was a blast, even though that rear end would bang on the seat and make a sore skinny butt of mine. Hot gear oil on feet from trans in/out box lever. These are things that all racers should record and share with others cause they are just memories in most cases. Mavman is working with an ex outlaw driver on his sprinter and I hope to see it run someday. Better quit now, have taken up enough space on the board today. Good luck and take care.
Old Guy, great to see you back. Didn't figure you stay away from a great community like this for too long, heck we're all family here, aren't we?
Nice rides, Dave! Nice numbers also, even though we're never quite satisfied with what we acheive! We *always* want to go faster! All it takes is money! Something I don't remember what it looks like!
Re: Rick's answers hmmm...yeah I bet my windsor would make the 'mont fly! Bet a 545 would make the Mav even quicker!
