Hey does anyone know how well hydraulic clutch actuators work are they fast enough or consistent enough for drag racing.

ive seen them used. lots of car use them stock. like the 3rd and 4th gen camaros. the common complaint is that they dont give you the same level of feed back that a cable or linkage can give. the stock stuff uses alot of plastic parts that can flex. an aftermarket system that uses metal componets would not have that flex and should have a nice feel

Hi Bryant thanks for the info I think I will stick with the old school linkage I am installing a toploader in my 70 Maverick to race the pro stick class. The hydraulics would have saved the aggravation of locating or fabricating the rare parts for the V-8 clutch linkage not to mention header clearance problems. But I doubt it could match the speed of mechanical linkage.
    Thanks, Mark

I just don't like the feel of a hydraulic or a cable. It's personal preference I'm sure, but I will take mechanical linkage over the alternatives every time...especially for racing.

I managed to get all the V8 Maverick parts for the stock linkage little by little over the years. The most expensive part for me was the ball that mounted to the engine. The first linkage I put in there though was a 6 cylinder one out of a Maverick that I modified. Honestly if I were to do it again, I would pick up one of the re-popped z-bars and then just make all the rest of the stuff.

My car should be fun, but it's a jackstand queen. After 4 years of building it, it is 'almost' done. We just finished the cage, the motor is waiting to be dropped in. I'm waiting for the rear axle seals to show up. Once my header flanges show up, I need to make a new set (already built and sold my original set) for the Dart heads that I changed to mid-stream. It's all coming together and should be running in the next couple of months. I'll let you know then how fun it is...or how big of a grenade I've created! :16suspect

I'm running 66 Mustang z-bar, pivots, lower rod, fork, in mine. No mods necessary.

a lot of the stock and super stock guys run them you can use a line lock set-up and use it to work like a trans-brake push in the clutch hit the button take your foot of the clutch the light turns green release the button and BOOM wheels in the air banging gears with a big grin:D:D:D
    thats just my 2 cents:chirp:
