Yup ... guy made me the vinyl top as per my measurements (hope they were correct) and shipped it out on Friday ... I should have it this week.
Now, now ... no judgement until the finished product! I haven't decided about Grabber stripes on the sides ... I'll definitely be putting the stripe on the hood to coordinate with the rest of the car. The front grill, bezels, rear panel, rear bezels, magnum 500's and soon to be vinyl top are all black so the hood stripe should set it off nicely ....
Look Dan, You have a low-mileage classic car that is almost perfect. It didn't come with a vinyl top. The roof of that car looks great as it is, and now you want to add vinyl. Why not leave well enough alone? Many people have removed vinyl tops from their cars (and for good reason), but I have never heard of adding one to a car that never had one. If you're really so itchy to make changes to that car, you should put a 302 in it. Otherwise, it's just gonna look like a Grabber but have no balls...
I already have the show and go car ... my Grabber. This car is my cruiser ... plush interior, automatic, A/C, P/S, AM/FM/CD, economical 250 6-banger. The vinyl top will bring a little of the interior elegance to the outside ... besides ... I think my mockup from another thread looks pretty good!
If you want elegance, get a Cadillac or a Lincoln. These are Mavericks & Comets. The 2-doors are sporty and the 4-doors are grocery-getting family cars. The more crap you put on them just makes them look gawdy...
Nice job. I have that same promo sitting on my mantle. It's missing a couple parts ('cuz Larry stole 'em before giving me the model). I also have the Jo-han model that Larry made a Grabber ducktail and hood for. I still haven't put it together...
Dan, it's your car. Do what you want with it. You don't have to explain in detail or answer to anybody why you do your car the way you do. "That's the way I want it," is all anybody needs to hear.
Can't fool me buddy. I'm wayyy too smart to fall for something like. Unfortunately I couldn't have said that about 6 months ago when I first saw it!
Hey Dan, just curious what was the condition of the side-trim? O BTW, I think your car looks good with or without a vinyl top.
