Hey everybody, so this is my first post here. If I end up getting this Maverick then I'm sure it wont be the last.

I'm new to the Mavericks, but the more I learn - the more I like. This past week, I just happened to find this one right down the road from my house and I am really excited about it.

According to the message I received about the car's condition, "The engine runs , transmission needs work, the interior is ripped up except for the drivers seat and the floor board in the back is rotted out."

I was just curious what the Maverick experts would say is a fair price for this car or what would you expect to pay?

If the floors are rotten, you'll have to check the torque boxes, under the battery, inner fender aprons, and the rear rails where the shackles mount, quarter panels, trunk floor and of course the cowl. If any of those have major rust, it's a $100-300 parts car. Rust is the killer when it comes to Mavericks. You can't buy floor pans and stuff like you can for a Mustang.

Thanks man, that's exactly the kind of insight I was hoping for. I figured rust was really bad news, I just didn't know how bad. So then, in this situation if you cant buy the floor pans; it really is not usable; there really aren't many options?

You can always buy used rust free floor pans.
Where are you located? Sometimes it's better to hold out, and spend a little more for a better car.

Also check the under side of the hood, right up front.

Would I be looking for rust underneath the hood as well or should I look for something else?

Maybe you're right and i should hold out. I just really wanted a project car that wasn't too far gone (being a beginner), and not one that someone else has put so much work into (then charges for it). Its apparently a fine line between project car and parts car and I still don't have the experience to know the difference.

if it has some rust issues, i would go over $500..... if it's fairly 'rust-free', i'd consider anywhere in the neighborhood of $1500-$1800

well the wheel wells have a good bit of rust (not rusted through - just on the surface) and then the floor pan problem, which i haven't seen the extent of it.

He is asking for $1,000. I was thinking I would offer a lot less, but I didn't know what exactly should be offered.

I would check it out get pictures and show the experts but just looking at it $1000 looks really good you could part it out for $1000

One of the big things to check out is the cowl vents. There in between the windshield and the hood. Pour some water in and see where it comes out. If it comes out inside the car you found why the floor pans are rotted. MAJOR FIX. If none comes out inside the car then the windshield gasket is probably the culprit. :)

Lots of good stuff here; Im gonna have to take notes. The cowl has been mentioned twice now and that is news to me. I guess I gotta convince the old guy to let me have a bit of time with it. I like the idea of taking pictures and bringing more info back here.

I really don't want to go to clean this thing and have the bottom half turn to dust. As much work as I'm prepared to do under the hood I would really like it if the body was at least solid; otherwise what am I buying here? i mean something has got to be intact so I have a frame to work with. I'm gradually getting an understanding of what needs to be there; which initially I had no clue.
