Well after a bad experience with lots of rust on the Maverick, I have found the car Ill be holding onto for good. Its a 1972 4dr Comet, 60k orig miles and a stack of paper work from day one when the lady drove it off the lot. Everything is like brand new inside and out with 0 rust well almost 0 the battery tray has a hint of rust. It is powered by a bone stock 302 and has working A/C and Heat.....:yahoo:

I have no plans of altering the car as it is very hard to find a 1 owner car this old with documentation. Every oil change, tire rotation, you name it. It had the heads off for a valve job at 43k mile which I thought was strange but who knows. Im very happy and cant wait for the car shows. Rick (Killercomet) my hubby will be roasting his butt off while I cruise in A/C.

    Wow, Sweet find there!

    I wouldn't change a thing there either.

A valve job at 43,000 miles might have been due to running the car on unleaded gas. 1972 motors did not yet have hardened valve seats. It is OK to run an earlier motor on unleaded if you go into it with the understanding that you will wear the valves out sooner than expected. I might spring for hardened seats the next time my heads are off the motor.

I was thinking that myself, untill I found a bunch of lead additive in the trunk and recipts for more..lol It looks like the lady used lead additive religiously. But hey that could have been after the mechanic that did the valve job explained what had happend too. Anything that must be replaced will be period correct, like the tires they look very old and though they hold air just fine, The bias ply Goodyears are a bit cracked up in spots. The only other thing would be the gas cap and dist. cap and wires (Accel Super Stock) everything else looks legit.
