I have 3.75 inch backspace on a 8 inch rim. 9 inches if you include the lip. The rims seems to just tuck under the wheel well. If a 245mm tire is 9.56 inches. That leaves .25 inches on either side past the wheel lip. This is in theory. I'm thinking I should start out with 225's and see hown they fit. I saw a car with 245's with 3.5 inches of backspace but they rolled the fender slightly to get them to fit. I have a little more room to work with. I can have a custom guy I know shave the lip off the fender. Tell me what you guys think.
Richard; if you cut or grind the wheel lip off of the fender well, it makes it a bit unstable. The wheel lip adds strength to the quarter panel. If you roll the lip in, it is better, but still compromises the panel. I did the roll thing to a car many years ago, and the panel flexed a lot, and got a buckle in it. Don't know if I did it wrong, but I would recommend against it. Use a smaller tire that fits under the car. Just my $.02. Earl
Someone rolled the lip on the '73 I bought in Feb. :16suspect It put a few small ripples in the panel. I wouldn't recommend it either!
I rolled my Rear Quarter lips a few years ago...with no trouble at all(no ripples)...didn't even crack the paint. I sealed it with seam sealer afterwards to keep the crud out. Just take it very very slow and tap it down evenly
