Alright the exhaust on my 76 250 maverick is horible....I don't know who did what or why they did it but it is seriously F#$^eD up. It looks like someone welded the muffler to a metal rod underneath the rear end and the pipes aren't connected in one section so smoke come our there... Anyway heres what I want to do. I want to install some 70 inch side pipes that actually work. Can anyone give me info on where I can buy these, how much they will cost, and what other parts i need to buy to install them and have them functional?
Well that was simple enough.... 1 more question. If I purchase this kit, it has everything necessary to run the exhaust from the block back...correct?
probly not. its intended to work with a v motor not a i motor. you will need some extra pipeing and need to split the exhast from the manifold into two pipes to goto each side of the car. you could have it just goto the passenger side and put the drivers side on just for the look. there may be enough pipeing to do that in that kit.
How difficult would this be and where might I purchase the required amount of pipeing that would work for this job?
The cool way to do this swap is if you can get a dual outlet header http://www.classicinlines.com/products.asp?cat=53 Im not a big fan of glasspack sidepipes, so on the Falcon we put the dual exhaust out the back. It's a 200 with the stock manifold that goes to a selectable Y pipe, from their each bank goes to two mufflers. We have a choke cable that we use to select which muffler we want to use. We have a 40S Flowmaster and a cherrybomb Turbo II
That would be the easier/more expensive way and probably the smarter way.... However, I am partly in this for the experience
The dual header outlet looks wicked and I am definately going to do that eventually. Since this is my first Maverick and it actually runs (or did before dismantaling) I am going to stick with its stock 250 engine and c4 tranny. I think that if I were planning on doing a 302/351 swapout this would be a costly part that would only be temporary. I think for now I will just go with a Y-pipe from the stock manifold since its less costly. If that appears too difficult I suppose I could do what Bryant suggested and have a drivers side for looks. Anyone have any last tips before I shell out about $230 for this kit? I will order it tonight about 10:00 p.m. i think.
