I just got this car, it's a 74 Maverick 4 door. I'm trying to find out where the modulator valve is, how to check it to see if it's bad, and how to replace it. The car doesn't seem to be changing gears when I drive. I press the gas and it keeps revving...I don't hear a drop when cars usually shift gears.
did you see if you have transmission fluid to the correct level at idle? The modulator valve is located under the passengers side of the tranny . You have a vacuum line running to it. If you have no forward gears sorry to say , your clutch material maybe completely worn from the clutches that make up the clutch packs.
im a newbie. I have no clue what all this means I have loss of power, I think it might be the carb. It stopped on me two times at a light today.
The members here are willing to help others, but some basic automotive knowledge is necessary. If you have none, I would suggest getting a more modern, reliable car to drive, as these old Mavericks/Comets generally need constant maintenance or restoration. Otherwise, I would suggest taking a class in basic automotive mechanics, such as what is taught in high schools.
