well hello everyone. i have been out of touch for a coupla days. went to my brothers wedding (about an hour away from me) drove down there . no with no problems. some of you may remember that my 4 dr mav is my only car right?? well........after the bachelor party.. after the wedding (thru which my brother kept holding his head in pain)9my fault see the bachelor party).... after visiting with my dad who came up from texas with my sister....... i decide its time to go home. i get in.... put in reverse to back outta the driveway... put in drive. and.......yup...... nothing. trans is gone.. and i do mean GONE. will not move. burning smell, smoking, rattling... the works....so im thinking... ok... check the fluid. check the bands.. nothing. all is fine. no movement. this is about 2 pm saturday afternoon. hrmmmm......i cant drive in reverse for sixty miles...... i have no trailer to pull it on. no truck to pull a trailer..... and after the bachelor party and wedding i have 20 bucks which i feel grateful to still have. but being ever optimistic. i start calling towing companies.. they want 300 - 350 bucks to take it home for me. and i would still have to find my own ride home. so me and my brother are discussing this when his new wife comes out and asks what is wrong. so i tell her.she says " you should have told me this 4 hours ago. my uncle is a tow truck driver/owner and he lives 2 miles away" so for the princely sum of 85 dollars i am home and the mav is safely tucked away. good thing i had it towed.. doesnt even have reverse now. by the way... the new speakers i installed the day before i went down there sound GREAT!!!! but now the bad part.... till i get the money to replace the trans.. i have to drive my girls car...... a 2000 toyota celica. but i will survive if only so i can say. "yup..... i fixed her up... shes mine"
sorry bout leaving you hanging. been a busy day or two. currently i am experiencing tropical storm ivan. ive seen worse back in texas but oh well. as far as the trans goes.. i have two options as far as i know. i can have it rebuilt for 850 dollars or get a replacement one from autozone for 400. havent made up my mind which one to do. gotta get the money first anyways. if i have it rebuilt it will have a lifetime warranty. if i get it from autozone only a 1 year warranty. i want to have it rebuilt but..... theres the money thing. i DO however have it dropped and ready to go in either direction. i jsut wish i knew something bout rebuilding trans. near as i can tell they offer kits for bout 100 dollars. but i dont want my first time to be on something i drive everyday and need. for now im still driving my girls celica. any opinions on what i should do?
