When I get into jegs, all I see are Chevy applications. I have been thinking about a centrifugal mounted under the hood, but I have alway really wanted a big Roots sticking out the hood. Who makes one to fit the 302/331?
i called whipple looking for one and they told me they would have to adapt a universal kit and make a custom plenum. cost--- appx $6000. that shot it down in my book
Dyers has the stuff you need to put a 6-71 or 8-71 on a SBF. Ain't cheap though. Then you have to figure out what to do with the distributor as it's right in the way of the blower. Most of the SBF stuff is based around a centrifugal supercharger...which doesn't give you that instant boost, torque, and response of a Roots blower, but it still is a big improvement over a NA engine. Vortech, Paxton and others make kits to work on both a 302w and 351w; both intercooled and non intercooled. Turbocharger is my preference though.
Weiand has the small roots like mine, summit has it advertised for 2499.95, BDS makes a small Ford kit 671, Dyers makes a small Ford kit 671, The blower shop offers a small Ford kit, Or ill sell you mine, which has had lots of upgraded work done to it. I also have a lot of extra parts. PM if intrested and ill give you my number.
turbo spools up faster and has more power in higher elevation areas.. super charger is best all around, but has more power closer to sea level i have heard of several superchargers that fit the 302 fine without a hassle.. but they are around 3500-5000 bucks
i would say do a centrifugal , vortech makes one for carb apps , passenger side or drviers side mount
Blower Drive Service, Dyers, Hampton......all have 6-71 kits for the small block Ford. I don't care what anybody says, Scott......a roots blower crankin' through the hood of a street car is too cool.
....And not to mention that a roots blower has INSTANT boost. NO lag whatsoever. They just aren't AS efficient as, say, a centrifugal or turbo. But neither one of those has the instantaneous throttle response and boost either.
Ok.....a little research. Dyers: Ford 289-302 Windsor or Boss Non-Polished 671 = $3,150.00 Non-Polished 871 = $3,450.00 Polished 671 = $3,400.00 Polished 871 = $3,700.00 Hampton: FORD 221, 260, 289, 302 and 351w 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 427, 428CJ................3800.00 429, 460.............................................................3800.00 Boss 302,351,429..............................................3800.00 351,400,Cleveland............................................3725.00 Blower Drive Service: (order components individually) 526-3S1 302 FORD 471-671 3” 1V DRIVE KIT $1328.62 8406* 289-302 FORD 671 MANIFOLD, UNPOLISHED, 2 PIECE $970.00 671-BP 671 STAGE 1 (GM) BLOWER, POLISHED, BILLET END PLATES $1774.11 24B6-2 671-871 DUAL BILLET CARB ADAPTER KIT, POLISHED $113.83 You get the idea. Typically around the same price (or in some cases cheaper) than a centrifugal supercharger setup. What most people don't understand is that once you utter the word "supercharger" you shouldn't have the word "price" in your vocabulary. No matter what power adder you choose.
