Got home tonight & there was a guy standing in my driveway. He asked if I was the MCCI Washington State Rep...Intoduced himself as Lynn. Then proceeded to tell me about his 74 Maverick. He bought it in 84, from a car dealer (about $3,200) can't remember the exact price he paid for it. Knows it cost more from a dealer. Anyway, he has not driven the car since 95. It is still in his garage. He wanted me to see it. So, I went to his place. He lives 5 blocks from me (small world). He has converted it to a small bumper, Grabber clone car. The work and time he has put into the car over the last 10 years, is awesome...He has fabricated alot of stuff for this car. He is meticulus also. It's a factory 302 car. It has 4 wheel disc brakes, roll cage, fabricated dash for his gauges & has moved the fusebox (just left of steering wheel) behind a flipout panel. The floor boards are out, but he has the new ones he fabricated. He still needs to install the fuel cell in the trunk..He has made the hood scoops functional. He is a Maverick fanatic. He couldn't believe I lived so close to him. He couldn't believe I was driving my Sprint to & from work. He really wanted the Sprint. That's Okay! I really wanted his Grabber. What an awesome car. I told him, lets get it on the road. He doesn't have that much left to do. The wife is giving him grief about the car. Here are some photos (not great quality) enjoy!!! The last picture is of Lynn (owner).
nice they're some relly nice mav's that dont know anything bout the forum or MCCIi was talking to this guy and he said that his friend has a 12 second grabber but he doesnt like to use the computer and stuff-but i'm still gonna try to get sum pics
I did tell him about the website. He doesn't own a puter....That's why I posted this thread. Nobody would've ever known about this car. Did you notice his license plate (Mad Mav)? I also was stopped by a guy, on the way home from work tonight. He was telling me about his 73 Grabber. Factory 302 car. Runs in the 12's. Asked if I wanted to see it. I said, sure, why not! He lives 5 miles from me. Very nice Mav indeed. Sounds really healthy. He's looking for a 70, 71 Mav shell to put all his stuff in. The driver's side door pillar is toast (from being hit in the drivers door. I did tell him about the website (he has a puter). His name is Scott. Hopefully he will be on here soon. He also wants to go racing at Pacific Raceways, the next time a bunch of us get together. Lets, see: That's Me, Ray, Bill, Scott. How about you Comet155?
Why Is It That Wifes Are Always Giving Guys A Hard Time About Our Projects? Most Of The Time Wifes Never Go Near The Garage Unless They Run Out Of Something To Bitch About Or They Are Bored. I've Told My Wife Several Times That A Project Takes Time And If She Doesn't Like It Then Don't Look At It!! Women...sometimes You Can't Live With Em' And They Can't Pee Standing Up!!
Hey I can drink to that. Of course my wife meet a gal in town and started talking cause she saw the 75 mav. Well it turned out they wanted to get rid of their 72 mav 302 4 door. The wife waited a week before she even told me and really didn't want me to get. I did see the car bought and its seating in my driveway half striped. Its a good parts car.
I'm thinking about trying out my drag radials next time out. You got room for 26x11.5 on 10" wheels? Run over to Coops and see if they'll bolt on. If not, see if the drag radials fit. I don't mind loaning them to you. I'm hoping to go racing again friday after this.
26x11.5 on 10 inchers? Yeah, that might fit. Are those radial or at least DOT approved? I'm ask'in because I only have a "fake" driveshaft loop {I just strapped some steel cable across the exhaust pipes to catch the shaft...not NHRA approved so I need DOT rags}. So Coop you reading this? Could I stop and test mount the gumballs and generally use your joint as a staging/prep area?
The 26x11.5's are full on slicks, but I also have a set of 275/50r15 drag radials there you're welcome to use. In fact if you like them enough, I'll make you a good deal on them. Go ahead and try them out if Coop doesn't mind, just keep in mind they are pretty soft and will wear out very fast if you use them for driving around on the street. I'd recommend changing tires at the track.
Pop over anytime & try them out. I have 2 floor jacks & jack stands. I also have a set of G60/15 cheater slicks (McCreary). They are mounted on steel wheels & ready to go... Let me know when you want to do it...
Damn, you guys are huge! I don't know...would race day be cutting it too close? If so....I could hit a Sunday and dink around with 'em.
Heck, my wife is giving me grief for not taking more time to work on mine! I don't have a garage, and the heat's been too unbearable to work in, but during a slight cool down last week, I got out and got under the 69.5 for a while, but it was still too hot to get anything done (ever try working under a car with sweat pooling in your eyes every 20 seconds?) Well, I was about to give it up, and here she comes, dragging my huge shop fan and an extension cord behind her, hooked it up, turned it on, and walked back in the house, then came out a few minutes later with a pitcher of lemonade and a couple of sandwiches, took off her shirt and shorts and laid out on my car trailer and caught some rays while keeping me company, and handing me a tool now and then. Now that's the way to spend a Saturday afternoon working on the car! (I think she may have been buttering me up to get the 70 for herself!.....smart girl! )
