Went out to start the car today and keep some of the parts moving. Don't drive it much. Well anyway, fired right up. But when it was idling every 5 to 10 sec it would lose power like someone keeps pulling a vac line. I kept it running and gave it some gas to see if it does it while running higher rpms. And it did! So I went looking for a leak or something. About 5 mins into looking for a leak. It fixed itself. So my question is, what the heck caused that? Will it come back? lol. I drove it for about 20 mins and it ran great. I think I just need to drive it more often. But still would like to know what caused that.
Something like this happened to me a few weeks ago and it was apparently trash in the carb. It would start fine but when I gave it gas, it just bogged down and wouldn't go. Couple taps on the carb with the handle of a screwdrive and it was fine again. I would say to be sure to get a good fuel filter, preferably one that is clear so you can see if you're getting trash from the gas tank and you can easily tell when it needs to be replaced.
Ray, just a guess, but since you are in Vegas, does that car have A/C? If so, was the A/C switched on or in defrost mode? Sounds like a compressor cycle which would be normal.
Ok, good idea. I will change the filter. Can't hurt to change it. I don't think it is the pump. I just changed that earlier this year. We will see what it does tomorrow.
No it wasn't the A/C. I have it disconnected at the moment. Compressor locked up on me. Got a new compressor, but haven't put it on yet. So no belt hooked up to the A/c either.
you should put a clear one before the fuel pump and at the carb if its a car thats sat for a long time and you may need a new tank like comet fever says
