I knew I would get your interest and the above certaintly does not include me. Here are my questions. As some of you know I am having a 408 stroker motor being built. I am also interested in using heavy duty parts to support said engine. Now, what kind of alternator should I get (remember this motor is going in a 71 comet gt). What about the radiator and electric fan? Should one go with an electric starter or not? Why do they put the battery in the trunk and what heavy duty battery should one use?

And since I am kind of hungry right now and can't think, what other extras are needed for said car? Oh, what about serpetine pulleys to run alternator and a AC unit? I say serpetine because I don't want to go through broken belts. Anyway thanking you all in advance, I need to eat.

    These are my Opinions:
Starter: Powermaster (lots of bang for the buck)
Radiator: Howe or Griffin (not as expensive as you might think)
Alternator: Ford Motorsports 1 wire (110 amp)
*Battery in the trunk for weight issues. Takes weight of the front and puts it in the back to help with weight transfer....also cleans up the engine bay.
    Battery: Optima

    I appreciate you good answer.

I feel alot better after eating. Ok what about a voltage regulator and can you think of anything else I will need besides the pulleys etc? Oh, how about what kind of tranie cooler. Please forgive me for my apparent ignorance but I have been out of this stff for about 15 to 20 years and I am not up to speed regarding new technology etc. Thanks again for your help.

Here's a good source of information and supplier for distributors, alternators, regulators, and a really good battery (the DynaBatt - 13 lbs.!)

    http://www.performancedistributors.com/

Transmission cooler: here is the best thing out there. From B & M:

70266 - SuperCooler rated at 20,500 BTU 11"x8"x1-1/2" (Racing model doesn't include installation components and has female 1/2 NPT fittings). Can also be used for all fluid cooling needs.
70273 - SuperCooler rated at 15,000 BTU 11"x5-3/4"x1-1/2" (Racing model doesn't include installation components and has female 1/2 NPT fittings). Can also be used for all fluid cooling needs.
70274 - SuperCooler rated at 29,200 BTU 11"x11"x1-1/2" (Racing model doesn't include installation components and has female 1/2 NPT fittings). Can also be used for all fluid cooling needs.

Radiator: Griffin aluminum circle track series from Summit Racing. Very good price and works great!

Electric Fan: Pick one. Just about all of them are similar. Find one that will have a bolt on kit for the radiator size you're using.

Serpentine belt system: Use the FRPP kit. Great stuff.

Water Pump: I'd use either the Meziere or CSR electric pump.

Starter: The standard Ford late model (small) starter should work fine.

I'd just hand a car to Foose or Trepanier
