I get nothing when I turn the key. This happened all of a sudden from one start to the next a couple hours later. I replaced the solenoid but still the same. Could it be a fuse or the box attached to the dash? BTW, it starts right up when I jump it on the solenoid. Thanks.
manual or automatic transmission? if automatic, maybe the neutral safety switch? otherwise, check the wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid and measure the voltage it's getting when the key is turned.
If automatic pull the shifter up with your left hand while turning the key with you right. If this works then adjust the NSS or if not adjust the ignition switch. There's no fuse going to the starting system
This is the best advice, ignition switch is on the steering column down low, pain to get at and is connected to the key mechanism with a rod
How is it grounded by the mounting screws? It's mounted with sheet metal screws and doesn't tighten much. I also got a new pos cable and all connections are clean.
Only for the solenoid. But, if if the solenoid isn't grounded it's switching circuit isn't complete and the starter won't get power.
It starts when I turn the key to the run position and jump the pos cable with the black center terminal on the solenoid (center left). Could it be the seatbelt system? I've never had any problem before and I wasn't working on anything when it suddenly became an issue. It was just sitting in the parking lot. The wires connecting to the bench were disconnected when I got the car. Everything is the same as when it was starting fine. I'm searching info on the neutral safety switch...
There are several threads about the seatbelt interlock system (I think that is what it is called). Have you tried buckling your seat belt and starting the car?
