What is the rule of thumb? I'm live down around 500 - 600 ft. above sea level, but the track I race at is like 2000 ft. I would like to bump it up a few degrees. Would advancing the timing at a higher altitude have an adverse effect or would it help me. I could just mess with it at the track but I want to see what everyone says.

    Thanks guys

lower elevation... more gas.. higher elevation less gas.

You should advance the initial timing by 2 to 4 degrees for higher altitude. This is provided that your compression is not so high that pre-ignition is caused...
