I backed up into a post that had a large bolt sticking out of it and this was the result: Do you think this can be pressed back out, if I take the bumper off? I'm afraid of cracking the chrome. I'll just live with it if I have to, but any suggestions will be appreciated! I don't want to have to buy a new bumper, or spend a bunch of money on this one! Thanks Guys! Sorry, the photo sucks. I should have washed the car first!
Take 2 pieces of hard wood, cut one to fit the outside shape of the bumper and the other one to fit inside the bumper then using a 30 ton press you can press it back out. Depends on how patient you are when working it as to how close you can get it. Using a press and the wood should keep from cracking the chrome. Have done this before with great success. Good luck
Sounds like a plan to me! I know hammering will just screw it up. Your method sounds quite civilized and you can do a little bit and take a peek at it to see if cracks start to appear on the chrome. I know it won't be perfect, but the rest of the car isn't either, so I'll just do the best I can! I'm sure it will look better than it does now! Thanks!
It has a few other little " character " marks obtained over the years, but it stills pains when it happens!
One thing I would worry about is busting all the rusty hardware off trying to get the bumper off the car, plus seperate the impact bar from the bumper. You might just want to leave it alone.
Luckily nothing's rusted badly at all! This assembly looks like it is pretty heavy, so I'm going to get a friend to help me. I thought about using a floor jack to hold it, but that's a balance operation I don't trust at all! Do you have any idea what the bumper assembly weighs? It is the big bumper.
Totally my fault! I knew the post was there, just not a 6" long bolt sticking out of it! I had parked there earlier in the day, but when I went to leave someone had kind of blocked me in. I backed up some so I could get around them and bang! I'll walk behind and look if I have to do this again!
Ah, the completely thoughtless. Such discourtesy deserves reciprocation. There is a reason for carrying ball bearings and nails in your vehicle for the perfect occasion. For every action there is reaction - nail their tires...
Yeah Man! Believe me, I thought about leaving them a nasty note! Then I figured it wasn't worth my time! What goes around comes around!!! I'd just love to be there to see it!
