i know i know mini spools are terrible and i shouldn't use it but i have it and while i have my 9" apart i figured i would just install it. but that is besides the point when i pulled the carrier out of the pumpkin i found out that the carrier bearings were toast. the races are chewed up and the bearing are pretty noisy. it was also packed with nasty hard old 90 weight oil. so i'm going to install a couple of new bearings and clean it up before i reassemble it. i told my friend that said i should just install the spool because i had it apart that i was thankful he convinced me to put it in. i will more then likely be installing a locker or posi down the line when i have some extra cash to buy one. the car really wont be on the road probably for the next few years. so the moral of the story is when your friend says do something you should do it right?:rofl2:

I get it. You decided to instal it just because you had it and that lead you to hidden problems. Always good when things work out!

Exactly it lead to hidden problems that I can fix now while the entire thing is out of my car.

The nice thing about a 9" is: Once you get it set up and decide later on to replace the spool with something "more forgiving", all you need to do is measure your backlash, pull the carrier and swap the guts, then reset the backlash and you're good to go.
