Ok, they were called a Maverick long before Ford used the name... I know this is sacrilege, but hey, it's 302 Ford powered with a C4. Has Mustang II front suspension and 8" rear end.

Make that a Jeep: a Willys station wagon. In 1957, Kaiser decided to directly sponsor a new adventure series on ABC, Maverick, featuring James Garner in his first leading role. Why Kaiser sank $7 million into the program, with no opportunities to display a Kaiser vehicle on its horse-heavy sets, remains a mystery. Regardless, he did use it to huzzah a new special-edition wagon with two-wheel drive called the Maverick Special. Available with either the ancient Hurricane (née Go-Devil) F-head four-cylinder engine or Super Hurricane L-head straight-six, the Maverick Special got a (comparatively) lavish interior, with a Pompano carpet package and the gear lever relocated from the floor to the steering column. It was also bestowed with an exterior makeover: two-tone paint, swept-back side moldings, chromed bumpers and hubcaps. When it appeared as a 1958 model, the Maverick Special listed for $1,895.

Here is the magazine ad. The black one is mine.

Hey Bob, good to see you around the board!

I like the Willy's. Has a '61 myself at one time. Loved the 4 wheel ability, hated the vacuum vipers ........ :yup:

Hi Ward, I miss my trips to Louisville. You and John were always great to hang around with. Since Obummer reorganized GM I have not worked in on the factory side of the auto business, so my travel is limited to SoCal. I still announce some NHRA events. Replaced Bob Frye at the night of Champions this year at Pomona and did the Cal Hot Rod Reunion and March Meet, but traveling out of state is just not in the cards anymore..I am trying to get to Bowling green for the Hot Rod Reunion there, but it's a long shot. If I get back with a manufacturer again, I will make it a point of getting back there..

On a side note, Tuesday nights, 6:pM PST at: http://www.speedsceneracing.com/home.html you can see my ugly face. I just had to plug the show...:spam:

    Take care....
