I have a 72 302 and am in the process of pulling the motor, Couple questions. 1) When I disconnected the hoses going to the top drivers side of the radiator. I broke one that had like 10 fittings on it. Looks like it broke on at a flared flexible tube in the middle of this mess. What is this part called? Should I replace it or try to fix the flared tube that broke? 2) I am pulling the motor with the a/c, alternator, power steering unit and serpentine belt etc... I think it is easier on my first pull. I think I have disconnected everything except the tubes that go under the motor from the power steering unit. Those have to come off right? It is a greay messy where the PS unit is. I want to replace it. The hoses should be replaces too I would assume. It is so greasy under there it is hard to tell what is leaking. 3) What is that part called that looks like a piston/shock absorber that is connected to the steering? 4) Any other tips or cautions in pulling it?
So is the radiator hose broke/tore? There shouldn't be that many outlets on it either but I may have just misunderstood you. I would just unbolt the PS pump from the motor (3 bolts) and leave it in the car. I would probably pull of the a/c parts and exhaust manifolds to make a little extra room too. Also be sure to pull the radiator out if you haven't already, you wouldn't want to punch a hole in it. Hope this helps out.
should only be 1 hose on top and 1 hose on bottom. also 2 lines on the bottom going to the automatic transmission. i still say the best thing to do is take some pics so you know how it goes back together. then take the accessories off. it's easier that way. are you pulling the tranny out at the same time? is this the stock motor. if so it dosen't have a serpentine belt.
1. I dont have a clue what your talking about. As far as I know there is no hose in a Maverick or Comet with 10 fittings. A picture would help tremendously. 2 & 3. The 2 lines from the power steering pump go down to the power ram. You can disconnect both lines from the back of the pump. 4. Unless you have a great memory, bag and label bolts and small items as you remove them. Pictures are also a good idea as Don suggested.
I'm thinking the 10 fittings (hoping 3-4) is the vacuum fittings. Have to get this clarified. As Don said, take pictures, also get a Chilton's or other manual. If you got any neighbors who work or know cars, ask them for some guidance! Keep posting, we all started in the fog
THe hose you are talking about is the heater hose into the intake manifold. Mine had like twenty vacuum connections on it. You should be able to get a replacement part from Autozone and pitch all the vacuum crap.
