Update on the fellow Mav racer who was injured in a motorcycle wreck. He came back to the track a few weeks ago and ran his pickup in street class(has to race something). Then last week felt well enough to climb in the Mav, ran dead on the dial but with the bad leg, got beat on the rt and ended up runner up in the finals. Just for info, in the past month or so, have had two racers and a racers father involved in bike wrecks. The people just don't get it, when it comes to looking for the increasing numbers of bikes and scooters. To big a hurry, to much cell phone yak and just plain stupid. Thinking of selling my Vulcan classic, before I get whacked or go beserk at the morons and kick somebodys ass.
Thats great to hear! Riding is getting dangerous. I ride a lot, it is something I truly enjoy, but I am in the same boat as you Dave, worried to much about "busy" people in cars. I have several times that I ask people "idiots" to pull over and talk to me about the dumb stunt they just pulled....for some reason, no one has pulled over yet.
good to hear hes doing better. definately more dangerous riding. if i still lived in the big city i probably would sell my bike. even out here you gotta watch your back and sides every second
Glad to hear your buddy is doing good. Too many dont. Still, I will not give up my bike. I watch everybody like a hawk. Thats about the best you can do.
Same here, glad to know he's back in action. I have a honda sportbike. Here lately I have been thinking about a cruiser, but can't give it all the way up. Hope fully the Comet will take up the slack in the speed department. But always, no speeding on public streets just at the track.
Glad to hear he is doing better. Around here I see people cut off motorcycles and ride their a$$ all the time. Really gets on my nerves. Then again it seems around here for every guy just out cruising and haveing a good time on his Honda-Davidson, theres 3 ideots on sport bikes passing you doing 90 in a 45 pulling wheelies and weaving in and out of traffic. You can tell the diffrence between the guys who know what its like to lay a bike down and the ones that think they are invincible and will never wreck...
Bikes are way cool, but that's not the way I wanna die when "my time" comes. Glad to hear that he is recovering and can actually race...
my tranny builder was involved in a bad accident a few weeks ago. a wheel came off of a car and hit him head on. been in a coma ever since. very little brain activity. don't know what he's going to be like if he ever comes out of it.
..as a side note, you would not believe the wrecked/totalled bikes I have at work. I have 3 claims in progress, 2 that have been declared total losses awaiting pickup by salvage company, and 4 more waiting on estimates. Latest one is a '05 Vulcan 1500 Classic FI. Guy's riding down the freeway at ~70 mph and a big truck tire's re-tread comes off and hits him square in the chest. It knocked him off of his bike (clothes-lined) and he rolled down the freeway about 75 yards (so I'm told). Helmet saved his life...wish I would have taken pics of the helmet he was wearing. Entire side of the helmet is spidered like a broken windshield, face shield is ground off, part of the top of the helmet is ground down by pavement, and part of the strap is ground down....but still intact. It did it's job by absorbing the impact. Surprisingly, the bike is in pretty good shape. Most of the damage is confined to the tank, fenders, and turn signals....and exhaust. All of the expensive stuff. Estimate came to around $5500, all because of a recapped tire which saved a trucking company about $100 or so. I also have a '05 636 Ninja in the shop which some moron (I went to HS with this moron) backed into downtown. She said "she didn't see it"). The rider was not on the bike at the time, but I also know the rider...he is a single guy like me who saved for almost 6 years to buy this bike, and he is extremely proud of it, or was, until it was damaged. Looks like the quest to save some $$$ on fuel these days is taking its toll in more ways than the pocketbook. Everyone thinks that a motorcycle is a great way to save gas money, but you gotta REALLY think twice in today's traffic.
No kidding. I got forced to meet the pavement a few weeks back, thanks to some idiot suddenly deciding he needed the lane I happened to occupy. Got out of his way sucessfully, lost traction, and wound up eating dirt. Didn't get too badly hurt (wasn't going that fast, hadn't even shifted yet,) but it pissed me off greatly at those that are so inconsiderate as to NOT watch out for bikes / etc.
That's the whole reason I got the friggin' bike. To be honest, riding it to work and back is kinda an exercise in prayer, given the absolute IDIOCY of the people driving around here.
I used to hang glide every weekend and was into competition seriously. Now with 2 kids and one coming, I made a concious decision to find a new hobby and that's why I'm back into cars and MAVERICKS, which is awesome. I still have to hang glide sometimes though, it will alway be a part of me but its like motorcycles, eventually something will happen. I've lost too many good friends to hang gliding. The thing you gotta ask yourself is "do you feel lucky...punk." Sold my motorcycle too. No regrets at all.
