I have been looking at retractable 3-point seat belts on the 'net. I've seen them range in price from $90 to $129 for each belt assembly. Even J. C. Whitney wants $120 for each assembly. Saturday, I learned that Melvin's Classic Ford Parts carries a complete line of street rodder goodies. They had these universal fit seat bealts for $85 each assembly. I bought two. In the '74 and later Mavericks, they bolt right in the stock locations and work like a dream. With the bench seat in my '77, the receiver part of the belt was too short to use. However, the ones out of my '78 pickup are just right.

Here's some pics. The first is a picture of what was in there when I bought the car; the other four are of the new belts. Good choice of colors, too - as long as your choice is black.

Looks good! And if you put a bright enough dome light in that car you can get a heck of a tan as well! :) ...

Trivia ... Why were Model T's Black?

Well ... Henry Ford owned Coal mines in addition to a Car Factory .... They couldn't figure out what the heck to do with all the coal dust which was a by-product of their mining operation. Then they decided to mix it with shellac and ... presto .... Ford used it to paint their Model T's ... so you could have them any color your wanted ... as long as it was black .... black as coal that is ....

I had always heard it was because black paint dried the quickest so more cars per day could be produced...

That is good info Terry. Sounds like an easy replacement and you found a way to save a few bucks too.

I believe Frank bought that at either Home Depot or Lowes. Earl put the same stuff in his car when he put in the new carpet and it worked fine. If you want to know a way to do it right and do it cheap - real cheap, ask Frank.

Terry is correct, got the stuff at Home Depot. It is about $25 for a roll, and that is enough to do the floors, and the inside of the plastic panels in the rear. Seems to work well.:)
