Installing an oil psi gauge

ill just make it short.. where do i put it? haha the sensor i mean. i have a 73 302.

 

Stock, or, aftermarket?

 

Sorry bout the double post...

The sending unit/sensor is mounted between the fuel pump and oil filter, just above the bottom right timing chain cover bolt protrusion on the block.

I used a T fitting with a straight piece of NPT brass pipe in the location Eric is explaining. That way I could keep the stock sender and add an oil pressure gauge sender. Look at the first picture in this post: http://mmb.maverick.to/showpost.php?p=597460&postcount=40

 

I would suggest using a copper line if it's a mechanical sensor. I've had the nylon ones break, melt, etc... And it's just a mess. Autozone sells a sunpro copper line kit for ten bucks, totally worth it. It also looks better.

so does the oil actually go threw the line? if so do i have to bleed it and get the air out?

 

yes oil does go into the line but you dont have to bleed it. i am suprised that gage manifactures still put the plastic line in. its a lawsuit waiting to happen.

 

its raining right now so cant put it in but it looks like a major pain to get to that stock sender anyone have any advice?

 

Use a long nipple to bring the sender out where you can get at it when you install it. There is a socket to get the old sender out.

 

is it called an oil pressure switch socket?

 

I ran mine with appropriate adapters for the oil when I put my gauges in so I'd still have the idiot light-----sometimes I turn idiot. Did the same for water temp. ... same reason.
