I have a 74 maverick with a good black interior. I am looking at not retoring that car but starting with another and useing it for parts. I think that will be more cost effective. Looking at a pre 74 car as would like a 1971, Several of the cars I am looking at have tan or blue interiors and they are very badly cracked and aged. How hard would it be to completely change the color of the interior and use my parts? I assume it can be done? Thanks Chris
The interrior components will interchange but...74 and up mavs have hump in the passenger side floor pan which can create a problem with the seat mount on the pass side...Also... The 74 has an integral 3 point seat belt set up, the 71 does not. You can use the 71 belts with the newer seats or you can mount the newer belts on the older car...This may take some re-engineering as far as the mount points are concerned but its not rocket science...Good luck!!!
The 1971 back seat is also different than the 1974 back seat. As long as you change everything (seat, side panels)...it will work.
I was under the impression that all passenger cars had em in 74 Dave??? Learn something new every day...:Handshake
Thanks for the input, Craig, I havn't thought about the side panels other than the door panels, are you referring to the side panels in and around the back seat? Those could be a problem, I remember them being molded plastic. I found a bench seat for the front out of a 71 that is black for 100$ so I think I have that covered. Chris
If the 74 bench seat is still good, I would think that would still swap right over. You will have issues between a pre-73 door and the later style ... different door handles and releases. Using the 74 doors on the earlier car would resolve that.
I have read some people posting about dyeing seats or painting with products from SEM. I looking into dyeing green to black. Any advice or experience anyone can share about this?
Yes, SEM makes exellent vinyl dyes and interrior paint products which will allow you to...Change the color of your seats/dash pad/door panels and so on. Just use all SEM products for the job. Also: use SEMs' vinyl cleaner/prep and adhesion promoters on the vinyl and plastic parts and it will last for years...
I was going look into just changing the hardware inside the door and the door panel for this modification, or just not worry about the door handles. depends on how they look and if the need to be replaced anyway.
