Just got the 1974 Comet home, need to repaint the doors and dash pad, (replaced but not painted). Need HB-Blue per door code... Where can I get some to match....TOM
One thing you could try is to go to a Mustang parts dealer and see if they have the correct color in a spray can. Most of the interior colors were used on both Mavericks and Mustangs. Another thing you could do is have the paint mixed at a place like Car Quest who carries automotive paints. There are two different paint mixing codes for Medium Blue. One is simply called " Medium Blue" with a paint code 4036-J. The other is called " Medium Blue Poly" with a paint code 4021-J. The word 'Poly' indicates a metallic color. The 'J' indicates a semi-gloss color, which the doors and dashes are painted. I'm not sure which would be the correct color for your car. Both paints are PPG brand.
I don't know of any car quest near me, I will check the yellow pages at work on Monday. I do see some shine on dash paint, must be the metallic.... Thanks Jean
Well then, the next thing you do is grab the yellow pages and call around the local auto parts stores and ask if any of then can mix paint. Somebody should be able to tell you who does if they don't. Actually, it's kind of odd that neither your Napa or Car Quest mix paint. Our Car Quest carries PPG paint and our Napa carries Sherwin Williams or Dupont.
Went to the NAPA wholesale complex in Cordova TN for the whole area, said none of the area stores mix any paint... Found 16049-01 at Mustangs Unlimited.com for 9.95 medium blue 71-73 mustang and cougar with metallic finish, also have matching vinyl dye 16049V. Anyone know if this is match??? also metromusclecars.com has some real interior paint colors for mustang also.
If you go to a paint supply store that carries PPG paint, they will be able to mix it up, and even put it into an aerosol can for you.
