How is the best way to change the servo while it still in the car?

Loosen the band adjusting lock-nut and tighten the adjusting screw to 10 foot pounds.
remove the cover (with a big pan under it) then remove the piston and spring. Clean the gasket off the case as required and install the new servo cover, piston and spring making sure that the slot in the piston rod is lined up correctly. After you have it installed back the adjuster out 1 1/2 turns and tighten the locknut. Fill the transmission with the engine idling on Park.
You will need a 1/2 inch wrench or socket and ratchet, a 3/4" wrench and a small (6") Crescent wrench. to do the job.

Dont think you should have to loosen or remove the v.b. Its pretty easy i myself dont even loosn the adjuster. Just slip the old servo out and slide the new one back in.

If you tighten the adjuster, the struts will stay put and you won't need to even remove the pan.

What tranny fluid should I be using? The trans actually is a C5 with a C4 V.B. and converter. Right now I'm using Dex/Mer thats what the stick calls for, should I be using type F?:hmmm:

Most if not all performance converters call for type F.

The kind of fluid is determined by the friction materials used.
I would NEVER use dexron in any Ford transmission - it has too much lubrication for my taste. With the modified paper friction materials in the C4 and C5s I would always recommend type F.
