I have a 351w engine with power steering but I will be using the engine without the power steering. My dilemma is, some day I may have power steering so I want to keep the setup. The fan belt for the power steering also turns the water pump. The altenator belt does not turn the water pump. Is there some type of power steering unit delete (stand alone pulley) or a better option that would work on a tight budget?

My crank has a double pulley. The outer one is about 8" in diameter. The inner one(for the power steering, is about 7". The 7" lines up to a fan/water pump/ power steering pulley of 7". There isn't enough room to have a pulley near the same size as the outer crank pulley (lines up to the alt). I would be concerned that the replacement pulley to the water pump would have it turn to slow. I really don't want to replace the crank pulleys.

Im pretty sure youll have to get the new crank pulley . Its the easiest way to go. I have a 4 door comet with a 302 in it and it has a craknk pulley. If you need it?

You need a different waterpump pulley, one that lines up with the crank and alternator pulleys. I've got several of these that I'll never need, but you'll need to measure the difference between your present pump pulley and one you'll need to make it work.

Hey baddad457. Do you know what effect it would have on the water flow having a smaller pulley?

Smaller pump pulley? If so it would speed up the pump.

Ditto. The pump speed will increase.

I do not have power steering on my comet, but I installed the quick steering kit, it works nice.
