I asked this question over here http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?p=175164#post175164 but I guess the techies did not catch it. Also searched on "jacking points" and got not hits. So...

Where are the proper places to place a jack and jackstands on one of these unibodied dinosaurs?

I want to look underneath to check on things, but I don't want to bend anything up.

    Thanks!

Regie, in the rear, underneath the center section (third member) is the best place. In front is a little more difficult. I usually lift by the front cross member and then quickly get well placed jacks under the frame rails. The jacking instructions on the underside of the trunk lid indicate where to lift the car with the original jack. But, not sure I like those instructions.

In rear: Place the jack under the rear axle. Jack the car up. Place jack stands under rear axle.

In front: Place jack under front crossmember. The two strut rods will be mounted into this crossmember. Jack the car up. Place jack stands under either the front torque boxes...or under the front frame of the car where the bumpers are attached.

Along the sides under the rocker panel are 2 notches. One in the front, & one in the back. This is where the factory jack goes........However.....Only use them as a quick & temporary point to change a flat. They cant take too much for too long before the bottom of the rocker panel starts bending up.

I place the jack under the lower control arms and then place jack stands uder the torque boxes.....for the rear,I jack between the leaf sping U-bolts and then place stands under the axle tubes..........

My car has been on the jack stands for a while now. On the front the jackstands are under the big crossmember, behind the radiator. Is that an alright place for the jackstands for a prolonged time period? Seems solid and it is much easier to work under the car with them there.

In the rear I jack it up right in the center of the rearend. Then place jack stands right up against the inside of the leaf springs under the axel tubes. On the front I jack it up by the cross member like everyone mentioned above and put my jack stands under the frame rails right between where the control arms come down and the lower A arm or whatever it is called connects up to the frame. There is a place right there where the jack stand fits perfectly up in there on the frame.

I'd be afraid to put the jack stands in the front where the bumper connects. My car has some rust up there from where a battery blew up years ago and I would'nt trust it to be strong enough to support the weight of the car until after I get it fixed.

    Cool!

Thanks, folks. I will employ my DK13HLQ floor jack to put this puppy in the air and take a look at the underside.

    Muchas Gracias,
